"STICK TO THE DEVIL YOU KNOW"

In Rudyard Kipling's Poem "The Gods of the Copybook Heading" I found two very profound passages, the first one, is the title of today's Blog. The second is as follows: "When the Cambrian measures were forming, they promised perpetual peace. They swore if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease. But when we disarmed, they sold us, and delivered us "bound" to our foe. And the Gods of the Copybook Heading said, stick to the devil you know."

A copybook was used in classrooms up till the end of World War II, it is merely a book used to practice one's handwriting. At the top of each page was a proverb, maxim, or quotation that was copied by the writer all the way down the page, for handwriting practice. The "Cambrian measures" Kipling was referring too, was the formation of Wales off the coast of Briton, way back in the prehistoric eras. The "They" that the poem refers too, is assumed to be one of the many clans of the period, when civilizations were struggling with one another for domination of the land.

The poem speaks about how one person or an entire society can be lulled into ceding what is theirs on the promise of something better. Humans are easily deceived, and manipulated when strife is present in their lives. The warning however, is that trusting someone who appears to be your friend, but you really don't know him to be, can in fact be even more dangerous than the enemy you do know and recognise. A wolf in sheep's clothing as it were. Just as we can glean the dangerous act of disarming the citizens, from Kipling's poem. We must also be aware of the internal subversion of our government. Which brings to mind a partial statement made by Marcus Tullius Cicero to the ancient Roman Senate. "A nation can survive it's fools, and even the ambitious, but it cannot survive treason from within." this is exactly what's happening to our government today. The two problems we as citizens are facing, go hand in hand. The progressives are trying to disarm us, and at the same time they are usurping the power of the people through insider, and backroom schemes. The ultimate goal of these progressive traitors, is control of the populace. Make no mistake about their devious intentions, or their ardor to accomplish them.
